Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund Charges Past Milestone

February 28, 2020 By Christine

This past October at Hideaway Hills Golf Club 64 golfers and volunteers enjoyed a delicious celebration cake recognizing the 2,089,996 miles of transportation provided to local families traveling in search of solutions to critical needs. Many of these families are traveling in unfamiliar surroundings seeking help for their children. The “Miles that Matter” initiative is one of the three missions of the Fund.  It represents the caring nature we all felt in Krysta.  Her willingness to give is represented in our focus on the benefits of Organ Donation. Her life mission of learning and personal development is represented in our Leadership Scholarships. Approximately one third of the more than $200,000 raised over the past nine years comes from golf events. Most of our funding is from a very, very caring community.

Our “Miles that Matter” mission provides GIANT gift cards to families in support of their travel needs.  We are proud of our partnership with GIANT’s Cash for Causes Program because we qualify to purchase gift cards at a five percent discount.  In the past ten years, over $200,000 in gift cards have been purchased from GIANT.  Many of our donors are happy to learn that their donations increase by a few percent.

The two-million-mile mark passed in October 2019 was supercharged during this past Holiday Season.  Through the Morning Call “Be an Angel” program, local charities can submit a three item wish list.  The KHMF wished for gift cards, raffle prize items, and monetary donations.  Over $10,000 was donated and with the GIANT discount increases the mileage to over 2.2 million miles.  The Holiday giving puts us well on our way to obtain our 2020 goal of reaching 2.5 million miles in support of local families in need.

You can join this worthy effort by golfing, sponsorships or donating prize items.

Half a Million Million Miles Milestone

August 5, 2015 By Christine

500,000 mi2
On July 4th and 5th Olde Homestead Golf Club and the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund initiated a Closest to the Pin Challenge on Hole #9 to raise money to provide services for homeless veterans and their families.  More than two hundred golfers participated and over $1,200.00 was raised.  The money will be used to purchase Giant gift cards with the cards being distributed by two local support agencies.  Case workers at Victory House in Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living will locate veterans and distribute the cards as to the families in need.

For the past four years the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund has partnered with many local golf courses in it’s “Courses That Care, Miles That Matter” program to provide transportation for families in need.  The July event at Olde Homestead will provide over 13,000 miles of medical travel for the vets and their families.  At the end of the day on July 5th the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund reached and important milestone of providing over a half million miles of medical travel for families trying to fund the high cost of ongoing medical travel.

On the two days of the event the Krysta Hankee volunteers set up a welcome station on the #9 tee box area overlooking the clubhouse and followed a simple plan established by Justin Smith of Olde Homestead.  As the golfers approached the tee box area they were greeted by the volunteers and told that if they donate $5 to support homeless veterans and their families Old Homestead will reward them with a coupon good for $10 off your next round of golf at the club.  In addition, any golfer that lands their ball on the green will receive a free round of golf at the club and the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund will award, golfer’s choice, of a $75 cash prize or a $100 gift card for the Club.  Dominic Carr was “Top Gun” on July 4 by landing his golf ball only 6’7” from the pin with Chuck O’Donnell Jr. winning the day on July 5 by landing his ball 8’4” from the pin.

Discover the other golf courses who have played an important part in providing over 500,000 miles of medical travel for local families on our “Miles that Matter” page.
