He’s off and riding! SimonChris & Simon received his new AMBUCS  AmTryke!
Krysta Cares Flight Club and The Lehigh Valley Steelforce Chapter of/AMBUCS combined forces with our friends at Whitetail Golf Course to make a HUGE difference for our young friend Simon.  Proceeds from our July 9, golf outing at Whitetail were used to purchase this beautiful adaptive trike for Simon.  He is a special needs child who can now roll into the great outdoors with his loving family.  Thank you golfers, friends and sponsors.

Richard & Roper

Richard & Roper

Thank you for helping my mom and dad with getting my service dog, Roper. Roper is a Goldendoodle, his mom is a Golden Retriever and his dad is a Standard Poodle. His birthday is January 10 th 2014. We got to celebrate his first birthday, while we were out in OH training with him.

We went to Xenia, OH from January 5th to January 16th for 2 weeks of training at 4 Paws for Ability everyday so we could know how to work with Roper with his commands. We passed the public access test on January 16th and graduated with the class, whom we all have become [Read more…]

The Morning Call
September 1, 2015

“I’m a judge every year for children’s essays promoting organ donation, so when I wrote my own essay for Sunday’s paper, I felt a little extra pressure.

My column was prompted by the donation of Indy Car driver Justin Wilson’s organs in the wake of his recent fatal accident at Pocono Raceway. His family reported that his organs had saved six lives, and I commented on the fact that only 46 percent of Pennsylvania drivers have the organ donor designation on their licenses.

Most importantly, I urged people who support organ donation to express their wishes to their families so there’s no ambiguity if a tragedy should arise.

One of the comments I received came from Bill Hankee. I’ll share more detail about his daughter Krysta in a moment, but first, here’s what he wrote: [Read more…]

Half a Million Million Miles Milestone

August 5, 2015 By Christine

500,000 mi2
On July 4th and 5th Olde Homestead Golf Club and the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund initiated a Closest to the Pin Challenge on Hole #9 to raise money to provide services for homeless veterans and their families.  More than two hundred golfers participated and over $1,200.00 was raised.  The money will be used to purchase Giant gift cards with the cards being distributed by two local support agencies.  Case workers at Victory House in Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living will locate veterans and distribute the cards as to the families in need.

For the past four years the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund has partnered with many local golf courses in it’s “Courses That Care, Miles That Matter” program to provide transportation for families in need.  The July event at Olde Homestead will provide over 13,000 miles of medical travel for the vets and their families.  At the end of the day on July 5th the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund reached and important milestone of providing over a half million miles of medical travel for families trying to fund the high cost of ongoing medical travel.

On the two days of the event the Krysta Hankee volunteers set up a welcome station on the #9 tee box area overlooking the clubhouse and followed a simple plan established by Justin Smith of Olde Homestead.  As the golfers approached the tee box area they were greeted by the volunteers and told that if they donate $5 to support homeless veterans and their families Old Homestead will reward them with a coupon good for $10 off your next round of golf at the club.  In addition, any golfer that lands their ball on the green will receive a free round of golf at the club and the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund will award, golfer’s choice, of a $75 cash prize or a $100 gift card for the Club.  Dominic Carr was “Top Gun” on July 4 by landing his golf ball only 6’7” from the pin with Chuck O’Donnell Jr. winning the day on July 5 by landing his ball 8’4” from the pin.

Discover the other golf courses who have played an important part in providing over 500,000 miles of medical travel for local families on our “Miles that Matter” page.
