Gas Card Program

The mission of the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund “Miles that Matter ” Program, is to provide gift cards to families needing help offsetting the ever increasing costs related to ongoing medical travel and other critical needs. Gift cards are purchased at a discount from Weis Markets.  Over 3.8  million miles of driving has been donated to these families in need. Cards have been given to foundations & agencies to distribute to families. Something as simple as a tank of gas or a few bags of groceries, can help a family avoid a crisis. Each month we support these local Food Pantries – Christ’s Church at Lowhill Food Pantry, LCCC Food Pantry, Parkland CARES and Northern Lehigh Food Bank.

These Include:
Pediatric Cancer Foundation of Lehigh Valley, Good Shepherd Pediatrics, Good Shepherd Rehab Hospital Neuro Programs, Lehigh Valley Reilly Children’s Hospital, LVHN Pediatric Oncology, LVHN Adult Oncology, Gift of Life Family House, Angel 34, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia Oncology, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia NICU,  Lily’s Hope Foundation, Shriner’s Hospital,  Haven House, LVHN Regional Burn Center, St Luke’s University Hospital, Community Services for Children, Victory House, Cindy Miles & Associates/St. Luke’s Physical Pediatric Therapy, LV Steel Force Friends Chapter of AMBUCS, LV Center for Independent Living, Safe Harbor of Easton, Trinity Soup Kitchen, St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, Turn To Us,  Truth for Women, Parkland C.A.R.E.S Food Pantry, LCCC Food Pantry, LVHN Transplant Center, Camp Freedom, STAR Community Health and Bright Hope.

Over the past few years the Fund has received many heart felt letters of gratitude from families who are freed from the difficult choice between buying gas or groceries.

“We just wanted to thank you for your donation toward our transportation expenses in getting to Good Shepherd. Krysta was and is a beautiful soul. We are praying for a full recovery and it’s people like you who touch our heart-strings, who care and make a difference as Krysta had done in the Lehigh Valley. God bless you.”

“I want to say thank you for providing the family from Creative Kids with the gas cards needed to be able to take their son to CHOP. When we gave them to her, she cried and said, “Thank you, I have a refrigerator that is bare and we were deciding how to provide food and also how to pay for gas for the next trip to CHOP.”

“We drive 90 minutes each way to take our grandson to his OT and Speech therapy sessions. This week we were handed a gift card from your fund. We wanted to write to thank you for your most thoughtful and generous gift. We appreciate it more than you can know and are deeply touched by how you have used Krysta’s passing to help so many people. God bless you! If we can EVER do anything to help you, all you have to do is ask. With all our thanks and deepest appreciation, the family of Samuel Ogden.”

The cards are purchased through donations and fundraising events held by members and friends of the Krysta Hankee Memorial Fund.  Most of the money is raised in golf outings through a partnership with several local golf courses.  The program is called  “Courses That Care, Miles That Matter” .
